The roots of Xometrics’ technology go back to the late 90’s. That's when our cofounder, Michael, first came up with the idea of using a computer-controlled motor rather than traditional weights to generate active resistance for a cable fitness machine.

Michael had been interested in fitness since childhood, when at the age of ten, he endured the abrupt loss of his father -- only 38 years old -- to a sudden heart attack. This tragic event propelled Michael to pursue fitness and health to ensure a more favorable biological destiny. Decades later, Michael witnessed the tedious rehab process that his father-in-law faced while recovering from surgery. That's when Michael came up with the idea of using a computer-controlled motor to generate cable resistance, an approach with considerable advantages over traditional weights, springs or elastic bands.

Since then, Michael has been looking for the right partner to realize his idea and invention. In 2018, fate brought together Michael and Coop, our head of engineering and cofounder, at a dinner hosted by our CEO, Dahlia. Coop quickly recognized the brilliance of Michael’s idea and the enormous opportunities and advantages offered by his approach, with its potential to result in genuine, positive impact for millions.

Within a few months, Coop created V1, our early proof of concept prototype. V1 functioned exceptionally well and showed beyond question that our technology is both viable and revolutionary. The wheels were set in motion, and Xometrics was born, at which time Brandon, our director of fitness, joined the team.

In the following years Coop has been designing and creating the ideal platform for our technology, the eXtensible open Fitness Platform (XoFP). We are confident that the XoFP is nothing short of a breakthrough that will transform the fitness and health of millions of people -- from novice and aspiring fitness buffs to experienced professionals!
